Weekly Letter From Dr. Alain Truche
If you’ve ever found yourself moved by a hymn, uplifted by an anthem, or simply comforted by the familiar rhythm of the liturgy, you already know that music is an essential part of who we are as Episcopalians.
At Grace Episcopal Church music does more than fill the silence—it helps shape our worship, express our faith, and draw us closer to God and to one another. Whether it’s a beloved hymn from The Hymnal 1982, a piece of Anglican chant, or a newer song of praise, music invites us all to participate fully in the sacred rhythm of our common prayer.
The Episcopal Church has a rich musical tradition, rooted in the Anglican heritage, that celebrates beauty as a reflection of the divine. Our services are designed not just to be heard, but to be sung—with voices joined together in praise, lament, and thanksgiving. Music is one of the ways we tell the story of God’s love, week after week.
When we sing as a congregation, we are more than individuals in pews—we become one body, one voice. Music builds community. It brings generations together. It teaches our children the rhythms of faith. It carries with it the comfort of familiarity and the joy of shared expression.
We are especially grateful to our musicians, the choir, the bell ensemble, and all who offer their talents in worship. Their ministry helps lift our prayers to God in ways words alone cannot. Every note they sing, or play is an offering that enhances our spiritual life together.
As we continue to grow as a parish, we invite you to consider how you might become more involved in our musical life. Whether that means joining the choir, supporting the music ministry, or simply singing boldly from your pew, your voice matters. Your presence matters.
Let us continue to make a joyful noise unto the Lord—together.
